Let’s Get (a little bit) Crazy
My husband wants to celebrate our nation’s freedom by sneaking across the state line to purchase $79.99 worth of fireworks. What is about the month of July that makes people a little crazy?
I have about 3 million things I could do with $79.99 and buying tiny and dangerous explosives wouldn’t be one of them.
“It’s a boyhood thing,” my husband explained. “We’re fascinated by them.” He even looked like a boy when he made this statement. Eyes all wild with excitement.
I guess July should start out with a bang. Kids are on summer break, the weather is hot and families everywhere are looking for a break from the norm. If you need ideas, you have come to the right place. Here’s a peak at what’s inside this issue:
July kicks off state fair season – Go back in time for some good ol’ fashioned fun at one of 40 agricultural fairs in Massachusetts. Ever cheered on a pig during a water race? Ever sculptured something from butter? Ever played in a chicken toss game? If you answered no, it’s time to get crazy! (page ?)
July is national ice cream month – P&K wants you to scoop your way through summer. Simply go to one of the participating stores, eat ice cream and then visit our contest page at www.WickedLocalParents.com and you’ll be entered to win a family-four pack to Coco Key Resort indoor water park, plus $50 to your favorite ice cream spot. (page ?)
July is the perfect time to plan your staycation – You don’t have to go far or spend lots of dough to get an authentic break from life. Take a refreshing dip at Springs Brook Park in Bedford or experience an island adventure with The Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area. (page ?)
OK, my husband backed off the fireworks purchase. We’ll go and watch a professional display. (Note: Find updated listings at WickedLocalParents.com). Instead we plan to head to a fair and do the cow flapping challenge. Sounds gross. My husband should love it.
