Peek behind the picket fences . . . where over-caffeinating is a competitive sport and parenting is distinctly imperfect.

You're good. I'm not even half way through The Golden Compass and we've had the book for 8 months!

Well you're in good company by reading the series out loud with the kiddos. Barack Obama reportedly read all three books aloud with 10-year-old Malia. That must take forever to read it out loud. The only long-ish book I've read out loud to the kids was the first in the "Little House" series. (I think I was more excited than the kids.) However my husband read several Droon books to the kids.

Congrats! Sadly, I have the 3 dark volumes left to read, although I have the longer task of reading the entire series out loud to my kids. This requires everyone to be in the right mood, and enough time before bedtime, and the slower reading pace of reading out loud. We just finished book 4 this weekend and I felt that the darkness starting to descend on the series even in that year. Having seen all 5 movies, I can only comment on those tales, and so far, book 3 is my favorite. I'm a sucker for time machines.
