Calling All June Bugs at ArtBeat in Franklin and Arlington on Saturday, June 27, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bug lovers unite! Paint ladybugs, beetles, or spiders in sand or make a ladybug door hanger with batik paper. As a bonus, color and shrink a ladybug charm. ($12)

Preschool Story Hour-  Who Lives in the Woods? Mass Audubon at Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, June 27 from 10 to 11 a.m.  If you are between the ages of 3 and 5, bring your favorite adult for a thematic hour of a story, an activity, and a naturalist-led walk.  Be prepared to go outside  For more information and to register, call 508.753.6087.

Franklin Park Photo History Book Release and Celebration is scheduled for Monday, June 29 from 7 to10 p.m. at Doyle’s Café on Washington Street in JP. Hear stories and park history from the book’s editor, see old photographs from 1880 through today. If you grew up near Franklin Park, spent long hours there as a child, or have just discovered this lush 527-acre greenspace, you will love seeing old pictures of the Zoo animals, of outings in the picnic groves, and the myriad activities that have brought generations to Franklin Park. Green Design with Kids in Mind on Tuesday, June 30 from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Science Discovery. Summer is a great time to do green projects. Conduct an energy audit of your bedroom and discover how rearranging your room might keep you cooler this summer. Construct simple devices from recycled materials that will help you catch a breeze or capture the sun. Learn to reduce your energy consumption and recycle discards to create your own fun playthings. The New England Patriots and the State Police agencies from the New England states and New York will promote safe summer vacation travel through a “Summer Safety Blitz” event at Patriot Place in Foxboro on Tuesday, June 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

State Police representatives from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and New York will be on hand to talk to the public about safe travel in advance of the July Fourth holiday and the summer vacation season. State Police helicopters from different departments as well as State Police cruisers, motorcycles and mobile breath alcohol testing vehicles will be displayed on Patriot Place Plaza and in the parking lots for visitors to view and explore.

The event will kick off with a state police officer discussing child seat safety and reading to kids at 10:30 a.m. at Patriot Place’s CBS Scene. A press conference with State Police officials, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and AAA on Patriot Place Plaza will follow, and the public will be able to explore the helicopters and state police vehicles until 1 p.m.
